Over the past four years, our scientists have conducted more than 500 clinical studies, all of which help to deliver safe, effective, everyday care at every stage of life. Learn more about how four of those recent clinical studies have revolutionized and elevated our iconic brands, from allergy care to skin care to essential health.

Influencing allergy care

The issue: Worldwide, allergic rhinitis affects between 10% and 30% of the population, and in many cases, air pollution may induce or reinforce nasal inflammation in allergy sufferers.

The Kenvue study: With limited direct clinical evidence informing the treatment of airborne pollution-related rhinitis, Kenvue scientists set out to assess the effectiveness of intranasal budesonide used in adults with self-reported rhinitis symptoms – such as runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itching nose, etc. - triggered or worsened by airborne pollution.

The findings: The final efficacy results showed that intranasal budesonide used once daily improved total nasal symptoms scores over a 10-day period.

Elevating anti-aging skincare

The issue: We know that chronic exposure to ultraviolet light ages, or photoages skin. Enter retinol, an ingredient that improves skin elasticity and fights against signs of photoaging.

The Kenvue study: While advances in science have allowed for the production of stabilized bioactive retinol formulations, Kenvue scientists set out to further examine the comprehensive efficacy and tolerability of topical 0.1% stabilized bioactive retinol in the largest integrated clinical analysis published on the ingredient.

The findings: Across women with mild-to-moderate signs of photodamage, this analysis found that the use of retinol induced greater improvements vs. placebo in the evaluated signs of photoaging, shown as early as week four and through 12 weeks of application.

Measuring the power of colloidal oatmeal

The issue: More than 200 million adults and children worldwide suffer from a form of eczema, most commonly atopic dermatitis (AD). Eczema is the second most frequent skin disease to affect African Americans, but experts believe it may be underdiagnosed. Black children with eczema are 30 percent less likely to see a doctor for their eczema than white children, and those who see a doctor tend to have more visits and receive more prescriptions than white children, indicating more severe disease.

The Kenvue study: For generations, the moisturizing properties of colloidal oatmeal have helped to restore, nourish and soothe the skin’s moisture barrier in those with compromised skin conditions. To further explore the efficacy of an over-the-counter 1% colloidal oatmeal cream for children with mild-to-moderate AD, 49 Black/African American children were randomly assigned to either a 1% oatmeal cream or prescription barrier cream twice daily or as needed for three weeks.

The findings: Results proved that the OTC 1% oatmeal cream — a novel, fast-acting and cost-effective option — was at least as effective as the prescription barrier cream.

Advancing oral hygiene regimens

The issue: It’s easy to miss the signs of early gum disease — so much so that many adults with early gum disease are not aware they have it.

The Kenvue study: To best determine the ideal oral hygiene regimen for these consumers, Kenvue scientists set out to analyze the effects of combining mechanical (brushing and flossing) and therapeutic (mouth rinsing) regimens and how they influenced the reduction of plaque, gingivitis and gingival bleeding.

The findings: This clinical study randomly assigned subjects with gingivitis to different oral care regimens and, after 12 weeks, results proved that the addition of alcohol mouth rinses to oral hygiene regimens provides sustained reductions in plaque to help maintain gingival health.
