8 things you might not know about Neutrogena®

Neutrogena® is one of the world’s most popular skin health and beauty brands, but do you know everything about this household name?

Neutrogena products then and now

In the world of science-backed skin care, Neutrogena® sets the standard. As one of the world’s most popular skin health and beauty brands, their portfolio of cosmetics, face and body care, sun protection (and more!) bring out the best of skin — no matter your tone, type or issue. But do you know everything about the household name? Here’s everything you need to know about Neutrogena®.

1. Neutrogena® began as just one product.

In 1954, beauty salon supplier Emanuel Stolaroff discovered a patented soap formula that easily rinsed off skin and arranged to import the product to department stores and drug stores. The soap’s literal transparency reflected the company’s guiding principle and, 70 years later, it remains on the market.

2. They have a sunscreen that looks invisible on every skin tone.

Most mineral sunscreens have a major problem: They leave behind a white cast on many skin tones. Without wanting to change the level of protection already offered by the Purescreen+™ line, Kenvue scientists were determined to find a solution. The result is Neutrogena® Purescreen+™ Tinted Mineral Sunscreen, which blends into skin to help protect against UV damage, leaving skin glowing and radiant with no white cast.

3. We have committed to 100% recyclableᵃ or refillableᵇ packagingᶜ by 2025ᵈ.

Across Kenvue brands, we are increasing the use of recyclable and renewable plastics, designing for recyclability, and introducing refillable product options across our portfolio. Today, Neutrogena® has plant-based makeup wipes, but by 2025, the brand will have 100% recyclable or refillable plastic packaging. Recently, the brand has made strides in sustainability, including adding Hydro Boost refill pods to reduce plastic waste by 89% versus buying a new jar.

4. Their technology, Skin360™, creates personalized skincare recommendations based on a photo of your face.

Combining decades of expertise with a database of over 10,000 images of real people — of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and skin tones — this first-of-its-kind, revolutionary technology helps consumers navigate products customized to their skincare needs. The virtual skin analysis tool measures dark spots, wrinkles, fine lines and texture to determine your skin’s vitals. That virtual analysis, plus your answers to a few simple questions, help the tool give suggestions for your morning and evening routine.

5. The fan-favorite Hydro Boost product line provides advanced hydration with science.

Hydrated skin is happy skin! That’s why the Neutrogena® team invented Hydro Boost, where all products have one key ingredient — hyaluronic acid. This naturally occurring substance is found in your skin, with one main job to bind to water and hold it within the skin’s surface. From cleanser to mascara to lip gloss, this extensive line has something for everyone.

6. Skin care not your thing? The brand recently added a line of supplements to support your skin from the inside out.

Support a clear, healthy complexion at a cellular level with Neutrogena® Clear Complexion Antioxidant Gummies and Skin Hydration Astaxanthin Gummies, which were formulated in conjunction with dermatologists and contain a blend of antioxidants and minerals to nurture the skin.* The Neutrogena® Clear Complexion Antioxidant Gummies also provide the essential mineral selenium to help support healthy cell detox for clear skin, and a daily probiotic to support the body’s good gut bacteria.*

7. The brand’s “Heroes of Skin Health Equity” initiative is aimed at improving skin health equity for those with Black and brown skin.

The brand publicly recognizes the work of individuals who are likewise striving to make skin care more equitable and have partnered with individuals to effectively close the “skin health equity gap” faced by many in the Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) community. This initiative celebrates individuals making a difference within each of their “For People With Skin” pillars: Advocacy, Education, Expertise, and Transparency.

8. The brand has more than 20 award-winning products that have caught the attention of the beauty industry.

The skin scientists at Neutrogena® dive deeper into skin care — and their innovation has won the brand recognition at beauty awards around the world. Customer favorites like the Neutrogena® Hydro Boost Fragrance-Free Gel Facial Cleanser recently won the 2023 Allure Magazine Best of Beauty Award for removing makeup, dirt, oil and impurities from skin while leaving it feeling soft and supple. a. Recyclable also defined as recycle-ready is when packaging is designed for collection, sorting and recycling, using end-of-life processes, but where collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure may not yet be in place for the packaging to actually be recycled. Best practices of ‘designing for recyclability’ guidance for plastic-based packaging include the Association of Plastics Recyclers in the United States. Note: ‘Designed for recycling,’ ‘designed for recyclability,’ ‘recycling ready’ are also used interchangeably and reflect the same meaning.
b. Kenvue defines refillable or reusable packaging as packaging that is designed for either the business or the consumer to put the same type of purchased product back into the original packaging, is designed to be returnable and/or refillable, and accomplishes a minimum number of reuses by being part of a system that enables reuse.
c. Packaging for direct purchases, may not include all external manufactured products.
d. We aim to meet the goal by end of fiscal year and publish the year after.
