Johnson’s® Baby is born

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s true when it comes to the first product introduced into the Johnson’s® baby product line. Back in the 1890s, patients were complaining that the medicated plasters they had to use were irritating their skin. Looking for a better solution, Scientific Director Fred Kilmer made a discovery in the process — his formula helped alleviate diaper rash — and Johnson’s® Baby was born.

Safety comes first

Our Johnson’s® products go through a rigorous 5-Step Safety Assurance Process, which includes:

  1. Sourcing safe, raw materials and working with vendors that meet the company’s quality and safety standards.
  2. Reviewing the latest personal care, food and medicine studies to ensure ingredients meet the requirements for safe use and evaluating impurities.
  3. Appropriately designing and evaluating formulations for the user (newborn, baby, kids) and product type (rinse-off or leave-on).
  4. Testing for likely sources of irritation as well as confirming product efficacy and tolerance — and making sure each product is ready for real-life use under heat, cold, humidity and more to check for consistency, safety and quality.
  5. Listening to consumer feedback and monitoring new industry scientific studies to make any necessary changes to a product to maximize effectiveness and safety.
